Head of Portfolio Administration

NHRS seeks a highly experienced investment operations leader to serve as its first Head of Portfolio Administration. This role supports the Chief Investment Officer in overseeing all investment operations and administration of the Trust Fund, including portfolio construction, reporting, rebalancing, and vendor management. The position also plays a key role in operational due diligence, implementing investment decisions approved by the Independent Investment Committee and Board of Trustees, and developing and improving investment policies, guidelines, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Centralize and oversee all operational activities of the Investment Team, including onboarding and disposition of managers, periodic reporting, and vendor/service provider management.
  • Directly supervise two Investment Operations Officers responsible for portfolio administration across public and private investments.
  • Oversee operational due diligence and external relationships (custody, securities services, investment analytics, trade monitoring, proxy voting, general consultant).
  • Coordinate portfolio rebalancing activities, liquidity forecasting, and cash management.
  • Ensure compliance with the Investment Policy Statement, internal controls, and governance/regulatory trends for public pension plans.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and legal counsel on operational policies, contracts, and partnership documentation.
  • Prepare and coordinate investment board reporting and performance analytics with consultants and managers.
  • Actively participate in NHRS management team initiatives and strategic planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with a public pension system (AUM $5–$10B+).
  • CTP, CFA, CAIA, or other relevant professional certifications desired.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills with experience across both public and private asset classes.
  • Deep understanding of investment operations strategies, technologies, and internal controls.

Pay Range: NHRS is hiring in the range of $170,000-$220,000/Annually
