Position Summary
Gallery Interpreters develop and lead daily tours of the Clarks permanent collection and special exhibitions, serving as a vital bridge between the public and the collection. Through guided close looking, discussion, and the sharing of contextual background information, Gallery Interpreters play a critical role in creating a welcoming and enriching museum experience for the visiting public.
This summer role offers a unique, "behind-the-scenes" look at the Learning & Engagement division of a major international arts institution. Ideal for students or recent graduates in art history, education, or museum studies seeking hands-on public engagement experience. This full-time paid position begins on June 8 and runs through August 31. Training will be provided.

Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Deliver daily gallery tours to our visitors focused on the summer exhibitions and the permanent collection, including outdoor tours of the Ground/work 2025
- Answer visitor questions.
- Assist with preparing and staffing regular art-making programs.
- Assist with the updating of existing docent object and artist files, and creation of new docent files for artworks in the Tavitian Collection.
- Provide general support for Learning & Engagement department programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to commit to work through August 31.
- Must be able to work weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training, and Skills
- Bachelors degree or current college student preferred.
- Art history majors preferred.
- Strong communication skills; public speaking experience is helpful.
- Warm, friendly manner of working with the public, embodying the Clarks policies and philosophies for excellent visitor engagement.
- Demonstrated cultural competencies: the ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures.

- Ability to sit at a desk/workstation and use a computer for prolonged periods of time.

- Ability to project voice and/or use microphone headset so visitors can hear presentation
- Work Environment: Work will be performed in an office environment, museum spaces, and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate but can be high. Weather outdoors can be inclement.
