Must be available 3-5 days a week, with availability on weekends, including mornings and nights
Substitute position
The Co-op frequently hires substitute employees to fill in for vacancies, both planned and unplanned. Substitutes earn an hourly wage (a minimum of $16.00 per hour), accrue a paid time off benefit, and are eligible for the employee discount on Co-op purchases. In addition, substitutes have preferred access over outside applicants to jobs with regular hours at the Co-op. Substitutes may work a range of hours up to 40 hours weekly, depending on the Co-op’s need and the substitute’s availability.
Purpose: To keep displays, coolers, shelves and bins stocked, cleaned and rotated. To provide prompt, friendly, courteous customer service. To meet goals for merchandising departments (Grocery, Bread, Frozen, and Meat).
Status: Reports to Grocery Manager

Responsibilities:
Customer Service:
• Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers with product questions in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner.
Stocking:
• Stock displays, shelves, bins, coolers and freezers fully without overcrowding. Front and face items on shelf.
• Rotate older stock to the front, making room for new stock.
• Pull short date or low quality; notify appropriate department buyer before disposing of, following established procedures.
• Label items accurately with price tags and/or signs. Report pricing discrepancies to appropriate department buyer.
• Maintain stocking lists and communicate with other shifts. Notify department buyer of out of stocks.
Receiving for Designated Deliveries:
• Scan orders with Scan Genius, when necessary, to verify piece count and notify appropriate department personnel of discrepancies.
• Check for damage and unacceptable quality; notify appropriate department buyer of discrepancies.
• Help with unloading as necessary.
• Rotate overstock into storage.
• Update stocking lists as orders come in.
Department Maintenance:
• Keep retail and storage areas in neat and clean condition. Dust shelves and products while stocking. Clean and maintain bulk area. Clean spills and other hazards. Sweep and mop floors; remove trash and recyclables; keep aisles clear.
• Monitor cooler and freezer temperature; follow established procedures for handling breakdowns.
• Keep department equipment in assigned areas and in working order, notify manager of breakdowns.
