Job Title: Maintenance Custodian

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

About the Role:

The Maintenance Custodian plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and proper functioning of the environment within our durable goods manufacturing facility. This position is essential for maintaining optimal conditions in all areas, which directly supports the efficiency and productivity of our operations. In addition to standard custodial tasks, the Maintenance Custodian will assist with basic maintenance functions, including light repairs, equipment upkeep, and preventive maintenance to help ensure the facility runs smoothly. This role requires following safety protocols and both written and oral instructions to promote a safe and organized workplace.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, equipment manuals, and maintenance instructions.
  • Experience in janitorial, custodial, or general maintenance work preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle required for travel between buildings (3 miles apart).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance tasks (e.g., light repairs, painting, plumbing).
  • Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment and basic maintenance machinery.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and sanitizing various areas of the facility.
  • Assist in basic maintenance duties such as minor repairs, equipment upkeep, and preventive checks to ensure facility functions efficiently.
  • Follow safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment; report shortages, malfunctions, or any maintenance needs.
  • Travel between 3 buildings (3 miles apart) as needed to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance and cleaning requests or emergencies to uphold cleanliness and operational standards.
  • Assist with the setup and takedown of equipment for special events or meetings.

Skills:

  • Ability to perform repetitive motions and manage physical tasks efficiently.
  • Competence in basic arithmetic, such as adding and subtracting two-digit numbers, to manage inventory and track supplies.
  • Strong communication skills to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain a focus on safety and cleanliness while assisting in light maintenance tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle for travel between buildings.
